Any way back for Nolan?
Hard to make a case for it except maybe when Carroll's back. Any takers?

Re: Any way back for Nolan?
With his experience and eye for goal he would make a good asset as a sub.

BFS will get put him straight back in the team though so pointless discussing it

A resignation letter would be a start...

That's relating to fat Sam btw

Re: Any way back for Nolan?
I think he should only be judged on this season. He got us up, then he kept us up. And now it appears he is willing to swallow a little pride and play in a manner suggested to him. What more do you want from him?

Re: Any way back for Nolan?
Truth is, no one knows what will happen. Zarate might have a bad patch of form, Song could get injured, Amalfitano could be shit. There's always a way back for a player, and I'm sure we'll see plenty more of him.

But... If he we're fit for the next game, I genuinely think he'd be left out.

Noble, Song, Downing or Reid - in that order...

'He could remain club captain with Noble having the armband for the actual games'

Who will be captain on the actual pitch, then?

Yes Norf I know he was injured, I meant that I don't think.he'll get straight back in now when fit.

Haven't read all the replies, but to the OP, a big fat NO!

Re: Any way back for Nolan?
No.

He's not good enough for any premier league midfield. Certainly not ours with the personal we have in our squad.

Re: Any way back for Nolan?

But he didn't get dropped he must of played the most minutes preseason and started against spuds and was probably the only player who didn't contribute then got injured....if he hadn't I'm positive he'd of played last night

Re: Any way back for Nolan?
Nolan's wages are sunk costs anyway, time to consider what is best for the team now.
I don't think we'll see the best of Nolan if we continue to play him as a starter for every game for the full 90 minutes.

He'll still have his value as a substitute and team captain. And I actually think when playing for 20-30 minutes he can be very effective, even when Carroll is not on the pitch.
Guys like Amalfitano, Valencia or Sakho will make Nolan look a better player.

So in that respect Nolan can still score seven league goals again, even if being used strictly as a super sub...

Re: Any way back for Nolan?
club captain doesnt mean he has to start. dawson was club captain at the spuds even thought they had been trying to flog him for the last year or more. dailly was club captain for us and paolo wore the armband when dailly was dropped.

Arsenal did something similar with Vermaelen last year I think

That way no-one's nose is out of joint

Re: Any way back for Nolan?
Arko is correct, Nolan signed a 5 year deal.

Arko 5:37 Tue Sep 16
Re: Any way back for Nolan?
Sully I thought he had signed a five year contract with us, so that would give him two more seasons with us, this one included.
So, no, I don't think his contract does run out next summer...and we'll struggle to find another team paying his wages to take him off our hands...

SullyHammer 5:33 Tue Sep 16
Re: Any way back for Nolan?
His contract runs out next summer, perhaps the fat one actually thinks if he achieves the boards objective of playing better football and getting a top ten finish, they may offer him a new contract?

How do we know that they won't?

Thames Ironworks 5:32 Tue Sep 16
Re: Any way back for Nolan?
Unless his captaincy is revoked I can't see him being left out.

Noble is only vice Captain.
